This course is a compulsory subject for undergraduate students of English Language and Literature, with the first students have taken courses on English Poetry, English Prose, and English Drama. In this course students will learn the theory and practice of literary criticism on English literature. After understanding theory of literary criticism, the students apply criticism on English poetry, prose, and drama.

          This course is for freshman's literary criticism—a workshop on theory and practice of literary criticism on English literature as practiced by the students themselves. The forms of literary criticism in this program are criticism on poetry, prose and drama. In the first half semester the students will be introduced to theory of literary criticism; and in the second half semester, they will apply literary criticism on English poetry, prose, and drama.

          The methods of literary criticism used in this program are close reading, analyzing, and evaluating literary works. First, close reading is applied to comprehend literary texts. Second, literary analysis is applied to analyze the intrinsic and extrinsic aspects of literary texts. Third, critical evaluation is applied to evaluate and criticize literary texts.

            It is important for the students of this course to learn literary theory and methods to apply literary criticism on English poetry, prose, and drama. It is hard to learn literary criticism without practicing. The best way to learn literary criticism is to practice close reading and criticizing literary works. It means that learning by practicing is an appropriate method applied in literary criticism. The only way to criticize is to practice analyzing and evaluating literary works. It means that literary criticism implies in analysis and evaluation. To be critical or not to be, let’s criticize, criticize, and criticize.

This course is for freshman intermediate translation—a practicum on the forms of English-Indonesian translation and Indonesian-English translation as practiced by the students themselves. The forms of intermediate translation in this program are the scope of intermediate translation, translating general text, health text, scientific text, literary text, political text, cultural text, Indonesia-English translation, general text, sport text, business text, education text, banking text, and religion text. In the first half semester the students will be introduced to translate English texts into Indonesian; and in the second half semester, they will be introduced to translate Indonesian texts into English. The translation methods used in this program refer to Newmark’s translation srategy.

This course is for advanced translation—a practicum on the forms of English-Indonesian translation and Indonesian-English translation as practiced by the students themselves. The forms of advanced translation in this program are the scope of issues on translation, faithful translation, scientific translation, literary translation, translation methods, translation tools, translating and interpreting application, translation social sciences and humanities, translating exact sciences, translating literature, poetry translation, prose translation, play translation.

This course is for freshman creative writing—a workshop on the forms of creative writing as practiced by the students themselves. The forms of creative writing in this program are poetic writing, prose writing, playwriting, and scriptwriting. In the first half semester the students will be introduced to poetic writing and prose writing to write short model poems and short model stories; and in the second half semester, they will be introduced to playwriting and scriptwriting to write short model plays and short model scripts.

Mata Kuliah ini memperkenalkan mahasiswa pada cabang-cabang ilmu linguistik beserta kajiannya yang meliputi dua bidang utama yaitu Microlinguistics (Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantics) dan Macrolinguistics (Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Neurolinguistics, Corpus Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Ecolinguistics, Applied Linguistics, Semiotics)

Mata Kuliah ini memaparkan sejarah perkembangan Bahasa Inggris dari Old English, Middle English hingga Modern English termasuk English Based dan Non English Based Pidgin dan Creole.

This subject is dealing with the basic ideas of the U.S. life and  institution. It covers the founding of the U.S and American continent, its historical background, social economic political life as well as cultural life.

Standard Competence :

The student is able to comprehend  the aspects of the U.S life and institution which build the nation.



 


Introduction to English Literature adalah mata kuliah yang mendefinisikan dasar-dasar kesusastraan yang meliputi prosa, drama, puisi beserta unsur-unsurnya yang diberikan kepada mahasiswa  semester 2 (dua) Jurusan Sastra Inggris.
